Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria are one of the causes of diabetic ulcers. Honey, aloe vera, turmeric, mengkudu and insulin leaves contain compounds as antibacterial and accelerate wound healing. The humectant content in the cream can increase the activity of the drug work and give comfort in the use. This study aims to determine the effect of combination of glycerin, sorbitol and propylenglycol as humectant on physical properties and antibacterial activity, knowing optimum composition and stability of optimum formula of cream. The poliherbal extract was used as an active substance of 20% by humectant variation of glycerin, sorbitol and propylenglycol and then tested physical properties including organoleptic, pH, adhesion, dispersion, viscosity and antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The optimum formula was obtained by Simplex Lattice Design method, the result was analyzed with Software Design Expert. The optimum formula was tested for physical properties then analyzed using one-sample t-test, stability tested for 3 cycles. The combination of humectant glycerine, sorbitol and propylenglycol effect on the physical properties of the cream. The optimum formula of cream was obtained by concentration of 7% combination of glycerine, sorbitol 7% and propylenglycol 1%. The result of the test of physical properties between experimental results with prediction was not significant with sticky power 20,67 sec, 4,267 cm spread, viscosity 127,67 dPas, and antibacterial activity of S. aureus 24.67 mm and P. aureginosa 20.67 mm. Stability tests show stable results on physical properties and antibacterial activity. Keywords: poliherbal extract, cream, SLD, antibacterial, stability
