Abstract

Ashitaba (Angelica keiskei) is a type of plant containing chalcone that used as an antioxidant. The use of topical preparations is widely used because of the easy use of one gel preparation. This research is aimed to make gel preparation from ashitaba extract using variation of carbopol 940 and CMC-Na concentration and to see the effect of formulation on the stability of gel physical stability. Ashitaba extract was obtained by maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. The gel is prepared in formulas 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 with a concentration of cabopol 940 and CMC-Na 0%: 4%; 1%: 3%; 2%: 2%; 3%: 1%; 4%: 0%. Antioxidant activity was tested with DPPH, observed physical stability including organoleptis, homogeneity, dispersion, adhesion, viscosity, pH, and gel stability using freeze thaw method. Data analyzed with One way ANNOVA statistic to see gel stability. The results showed that carbopoly 940 concentration increased viscosity and adhesiveness also decreased spreading and pH, while CMC-Na increased spreading and pH level also decreased viscosity and adhesiveness in physical stability of ashitaba extract gel. IC50 extract value of ashitaba 16,794 ppm, test result showed formula 2 with concentration of carbopol 940 and CMC-Na 1% : 3% was gel with the most effective antioxidant activity with IC50 value 82,604. The result of physical stability showed formula 2 with concentration of carbopol 940 and CMC-Na 1%: 3% was gel with the best physical stability.
