Abstract
Pletekan leaf (Ruellia tuberosa L.) was traditional plants a lot of available in nature used as medicines diabetes mellitus, but there has been no research to examine the security of pletekan leaf extract. This study was aimed to know the effects of acute toxicity extract of leaves ethanol pletekan on female mice. Extraction method used in this research was macerated method with ethanol 70%. Acute toxicity test conducted with fixed dose method using 30 female mice divided into six groups, the negative control, dose 5 mg/kg BW, 50 mg/kg BW, 300 mg/kg BW, 2000 mg/kg BW, and 5000 mg/kg BW. The observation was made during 24 hours up to 14 days, the organ weights of mice were analyzed using one way ANOVA and continued with Post-Hoc. The result showed after the administration to doses 5000 mg/kg BW only cause 1 death of animal test and toxic effects that did not differ significantly with negative controls, so that leaves can be declared safe. Thereby LD50 extract of leaves ethanol pletekan in mice greater than 5000 mg/kg BW included in the classification of practically not toxic.
