Abstract
Maja plant is a plant which can be used as a traditional medicine. The ripe maja fruit can be used as drug chronic dysentery, diarrhea, and constipation. This study aims to determine the activity of ethanolic extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction of maja fruit as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Maja fruit was extracted using maceration method with 70% ethanolic, then the fractionation used n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water as solvent. The result of extraction and fractionation was tested for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 used diffution method by serial concentrations of 50%; 25%; 12,5%, while the dilution method by serial concentrations of 50%; 25%; 12,5%; 6,25%; 3,125%; 1,563%; dan 0,781%. The positive control used is ciprofloxacin and negative control used DMSO 5%. Test result of antibacterial activity were analyzed by one way anova method, followed by tukey test. The results of diffusion method showed that ethyl acetate fraction had biggest inhibitory at concentration of 50% with mean inhibitory zone of 23,78 mm, while the dilution method had minimum killing concentration of 3,125% against ATCC Staphylococcus aureus 25923. The ethyl acetate fraction of maja fruit ethanol extract has the most active antibacterial activity compared with the nhexane fraction and the water fraction.
