Abstract
Mahogany seeds is one of the medicinal plants use by the public for traditional medicine and if use in the long term the possibility to change the original safe to become unsafe. The purpose of this study is to determine the sefety level of the ethanol extract mahogany seeds (EEBM) in a give time period for 28 days to toxic symptoms, death, and BB in the rat; hematological parameters (erythrocytes, hemoglobin, leukocytes, platelets, and hematocrit); and morphology of blood cells in the rat. The EEBM obtained by maceration with 95% ethanol. This study used 50 white rats and divided into 5 groups of males and females. The control group was given CMC Na 0,5%, the doses group was given of EEBM at a doses of 200, 400, 800 mg/kg body weight (BW), and a group of satellites. EEBM was administered orally everyday for 28 days and was observed toxic symptoms, death, and BB; hematological parameters; and morphology of blood cells in the rat. Hematological parameters by used Hematology analyzer. The results shows that rats was not death, was not affect toxic symptoms, and was not affect BB in the rat. The statistical results obtained significance (p>0.05) for erythrocytes, hemoglobin, leukocytes, platelets, and hematocrit, it shows that there was not significant difference with the control group for hematologic parameters in the rat. The results of morphological observation of animal blood test was not indicate a change in the shape of erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets. From the results of this study concluded that the used of EEBM was not leave toxic effects for hematological parameters in the rat strain wistar.
