Abstract

Triglycerides in the body used is the generate energy, excessive levels of triglycerides can cause hardening and narrowing of blood vessels. Alternatives in reducing triglyceride levels is to use natural materials namely pineapple (Ananas comusus (L.) Merr). This study aims to determine the activity and the effective dosage of pineapple fruit ethanolic extract of decrease triglyceride levels in male rats. The method used is the method of GPO-PAP. This study consisted 30 rats into 6 treatment groups. The group I normal control was given CMC 0.5%, group II negative control was given CMC 0.5%, the third group was given a high-fat and gemfibrozil induced a dose of 5.4 mg / 200 g BW rats as a positive control ,. Group IV; V; VI were given pineapple fruit ethanolic extract 0.78 mg / 200 g BW; 1.56 mg / 200 g BW; 3.12 mg / 200 g BW. The triglyceride level was measured by taking the blood serum of the test animals through opthalmic sinus at day-0th, day-14th, and day-21st. The statistical analysis used One-way ANOVA test. The result of this study showed that pineapple fruit ethanolic extract has the effect of lowering triglyceride levels highest on dose 3.12 mg / 200 g BB of ± 63.8 mg / dL, but not equivalent to the positive control treated with synthetic drugs gemfibrozil.
