Abstract
Gastric ulcer disease in Indonesia in 2005 ranks seventh in the 10 major categories of disease outpatients. Seeds of mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni Jacq) is an Indonesian plant used to treat peptic ulcers. The heavy use of mahogany seeds, necessary to test the toxicity to view the security level of the use of mahogany seeds as gastroprotective. This study aims to determine the onset of toxic symptoms and short sub-chronic toxicity effects mahogany seed extract in breathtaking views of the AST and ALT levels and liver histopathology picture in male and female rats. Mahogany seeds macerated with 95% ethanol. Viscous extract obtained was tested in each treatment group that is the negative control, the dose of 200mg / kg, a dose of 400mg / kg, a dose of 800mg / kg and 800mg dose satellite group / kg for 28 days to 42 days. Data were obtained every week and histopathological picture of the liver at the end of the 4th week. Toxic symptom data obtained in the analysis using a two way ANOVA, the data results of the AST and ALT levels were analyzed using paired sample t-test and One way ANOVA, histopathological outcome data were analyzed using One way ANOVA. The results of research shows extracts of the mahagony dose of 200mg / kg, a dose of 400mg / kg and a dose of 800mg / kg cause symptoms of toxic such as grooming and seizures. Ethanol extract mahogany seeds dose of 200mg / kg, a dose of 400mg / kg and a dose of 800mg / kg showed no effects on liver toxicity brief subkronis seen in the levels of AST and ALT and histopathology picture.
