Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease characterized by high blood glucose levels. Approximately 90% of DM cases is included in type 2 DM. Generally, early intervention treatment of type 2 DM is done by Oral Hypoglycemic Drug (OHD) which including classes of biguanide, sulfonylurea, thiazolidinedione, alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, and DPP-IV inhibitor. Many drug classes lead the clinician should be selective in OHD. This study was aimed to determine rationality OHD usage in type 2 DM patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta in 2014 based on PERKENI 2011 standards. This study was conducted with descriptive design and data were collected retrospectively from medical record. Data were analyzed descriptively in the form of tabulations and percentages to determine the patient profiles, the patient's medication profiles and rationality OHD usage in type 2 DM patients. Based on the result of the study, data showed that OHD used in this case was single OHD include classes of biguanide, sulfonylurea, alpha glucoside inhibitor and thiazolidinedione with percentage (78,1%), OHD combination with percentage (22,2%). The level of rationality based on right indication (84,9%), the right medication (100%), right dose (98,6%) and right patient (83,6).
