Abstract

Analysis of Rhodhamin B in traditional food which were sold in the Mojosongo market of Surakarta has been carried out. This study was a descriptive survey were obtained with qualitative assay. The purpose of this research was to find out the dye Rhodamin B on snacks were sold in the Mojosongo market of Surakarta. The samples were extracted through purification and absorption using wool in acid condition. The colour from the extraction process was eluted on paper chromatography and thin layer chromatography using solvent mixtures of n-butanol : glacial acetic acid : water (solvent A) and n-butanol : ethyl acetat : ammonia (solvent B). The spots of elution were calculated those value of Rf. Rf of sampels and standard was compared to determine the Rhodamin content in the samples. The identification was continued using thin layer chromatography which was illuminated in the UV lamp at the wavelength of 254 nm and 366 nm. The result showed that all of the samples did not have identical Rf with the standard of Rhodamin B and did not radiate the yellow fluoresence. It can be concluded that all of the samples did not containt of Rhodamin B. Keywords : Rhodamin B, traditional food, chromatography
