Abstract

Methyl salicylate obtained by synthesis with maceration or steam distillation of Gautheria procumbens L. leaf. Methyl salicylate be used as topical analgesic drug. This study was aimed to determine whether methyl salicylate can be made cream preparation and to determine the effect of methyl salicylate which made with concentration variation of album vaseline to the test of cream physical quality. Production of methyl salicylate cream using cream production method with base of type O/W. Methyl salicylate made cream preparation with concentrations variation of album vaseline 7.36% (formula 1), 9.2% (Formula 2) and 11.04% (formula 3). Furthermore, each formula tested the physical quality that includes: organoleptic test, homogeneity, viscosity, dispersive, adhesion and pH. Cream was observed on day 1st, day 7th and day 14th. Afterwards the data were analyzed statistically with one way Anova, if there are significant differences between the formula, then continued Post Hoc test using confidence level of 95%. The results showed that methyl salicylate could be made cream preparation with concentration variation of album vaseline and meet the test of physical quality. Keywords: cream, methyl salicylate, album vaseline
