Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus cause infections such as damage skin or bodily injury. Sereh wangi stem (Cymbopogon nardus L.) and lime leaves (Citrus hystrix DC.) were a plant that can be used as an antibacterial. It is contained in sereh wangi stem and lime leaves have antibacterial activity. This study aims to know activity from essential oil of sereh wangi stem and lime leaves combined as antibacterial to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The isolation of essential oil from sereh wangi stem and lime leaves used steam and water distillation. Antibacterial activity test this study used diffusion method. The test used concentration tests of 25%; 12,5%; 6,25% with their comparison of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 2:1, 3:1. The data was processed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical with two-ways method, so obtained their result was significance. The result of study with diffusion method showed combination essential oil of sereh wangi stem (Cymbopogon nardus L.) and lime leaves (Citrus hystrix DC.) had antibacterial activity to Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The largest inhibition zone diameter was 21.36±0,84 mm of their combination was 2:1 at concentration of 25%. The main components were efficacious as antibacterial on essential oil of sereh wangi stem (Cymbopogon nardus L.) are citral of 47.57% and Z-citral of 35.11%, while volatile oil of lime leaves (Citrus hystrix DC.) is citronella of 81.26%.
