Abstract

Hyperlipidaemia is a condition of increased LDL levels and decreased HDL levels in blood. Hylocereus polyrhizus rind contains flavonoid compounds that act as antioxidants that counteract free radicals that prevent the oxidation process of LDL. This study aims to determine the effect of Hylocereus polyrhizus rind on LDL and HDL levels in blood serum of hyperlipidemic rats. This study used experimental animals of male white rats. A total of 30 rats divided into 6 treatment groups. Except normal control, the other 5 treatment groups induced high-fat feeds form of beef fat, egg yolk of quail and PTU induction. Day 14, group I not treated, group II CMC 0,5%, group III simvastatin 0,18 mg/200 g body weight and group IV, V and VI dose of extract 40 mg, 80 mg and 160 mg/200 g body weight of rat. Levels of LDL and HDL were analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, One Way ANOVA and Post Hoc Test (Tukey). LDL and HDL measured by CHOD-PAP method on 14th and 28th days. The research results show the provision of extract the rind of Hylocereus polyrhizus lower the levels of HDL and increase levels of HDL rats. A dose of an extract biggest lower the levels of HDL levels and LDL increase dose of 160 mg/200 gram body weight of rat. Keywords : Hyperlipidemic, LDL, HDL, Hylocereus polyrhizus
