Abstract
Premature aging can be prevented by using cosmetic which contain antioxidants. Ant nest (Myrmecodia pendans Merr. & Perry) is a plant containing potent compounds as natural antioxidants such as flavonoids, tannins. Made of gel preparation because itdries easily, forming a film layer which easy to wash and give a cold sensation. HPMC as a gelling agent and glycerin as humectant to maintain moisture dosage. Ant nest extract is extracted by graded maceration with n-hexane solvent, ethyl acetate, ethanol 70%. The result of viscous extract with IC50 optimum value was formulated into gel. The formulations were carried out with HPMC and glycerin variations. Formulas that fulfill the criteria of homogeneity, dispersion, adhesion and viscosity are defined as the optimum formula. The antioxidant activity test was performed by Diphenylhydrazylpicryl (DPPH) method with quercetin standard. Ethanol 70% extract ant nest has IC50 value 80,92 ppm. The gel that meets the criteria is gel with 3% HPMC and 10% glycerin. The combination meets the organoleptic and homogeneity aspects. pH 4.5 gel preparation, 4.3cm2 scattering, viscosity 260 d.Pas, and stable at 21 days storage. The result of antioxidant test showed that the combination of 3.5% HPMC and 20% glycerin had the lowest IC50 value 130,63 ppm. Keyword : antioxidant, ant nest, gel, HPMC, glycerin
