Abstract

Avocado (Persea americana Mill) peel has active flavonoid content with the content of anthocyanin and polyphenol as antioxidant were potentially as hypolidemic agent. The study purposes was determined the effect of ethanol extract of avocado rind to the triglyceride levels and body weight of male white rats and determined the most effective dose of ethanol extract. Ethanol extract of the avocado peel was prepared by maceration using 96% ethanol. Animal test was used in this study are male white rats that were 30 rats and divided into 6 groups. Group I is normal control was given 0.5% CMC, the Group II is positive control was given gemfibrosil suspension of 10.8 mg/200 g BW of rat, Group III is negative controls were given a CMC high fat diet of 0.5%, Group IV, V and VI as testing group were given ethanol extract doses of 7 mg/200 g BW, 14 mg/200 g BW, 21 mg/200 g BW. The triglyceride content was measured using the GPO-PAP method. Data analysis was used statistics. The study results were showed that doses of ethanol extract of avocado peel has anti-hypertrigliceridemia effect on male white rats. The most effective of ethanol extract dose is 21 mg/200 g BW comparable with gemfibrosil. The ethanol extract of avocado rind also give effect to the body weight of male white rats.
