Abstract

Mahogany seeds and betel leaf is a plant that is empirically used by the public as an alternative medicine and useful as an antibacterial. Mahogany seeds and betel leaves contain flavonoid compounds and saponins. This study aims to determine whether the combination of ethanol extract mahogany seeds and betel leaf has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and compare the combination of betel leaf mahogany seeds and the most effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. In this study each extract was obtained by percolation process with 70% ethanol solvent. Antibacterial test of ethanol extract a combination of both the test plants is determined by the diffusion method to determine the growth inhibition area with a concentration of 50% and a ratio of betel leaf mahogany seeds directly consecutive 1: 1, 1: 2 and 2: 1. The comparison used in this study is Betadine. Based on the research of antibacterial activity test of ethanol extract combination of mahogany seeds (Swietenia mahagoni Jacq.) And betel leaf (Piper betle L.) can be concluded that the combination of the ethanol extract of betel leaf (Piper betle L.) and seeds mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni Jacq.) Have activity antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and the most effective combination is used in combination (2: 1) seed ethanol extract mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni Jacq.) and betel leaf (Piper betle L.) in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 Keywords : antibacterial, mahogany seeds, betel leave, Staphylococcus aureus
