Abstract

High alcohol consumption cause significant hyperuricemia. Alcohol ( ethanol ) increases production of uric acid by increasing production of lactic acid. Uric acid is an end product of purin metabolism in human and most of uric acid excreted by kidney and a little by gout. In human blood plasma, the reference of uric acid is 3,0 mg/dl – 7,0 mg/dl for men and 2,4 mg/dl – 6,0 mg/dl for woman. High levels of uric acid is called hyperuricemia. The aim of this of this study is to examine uric acid level in alcohol drinkers. Methods : this research was an eksplanatif study using cross sectional approach. It has been done at clinical laboratory of Setia Budi university from march 12th – 13th 2016. Subject were sampled using random sampling method. Subjec were 32 men : 10 light alcoholic, 9 moderate alcoholic and 13 heavy alcoholic male aged 20-30 years old. The levels of uric acid in the blood was measured with enzimatic methods were analyzed using Spearman Correlation test SPSS 17.0 for windows. Result : this research show ia a significant relation between uric acid level and alcohol consumption ( P: 0,000 ) only in moderate and heavy alcoholics . This study found a significant relation between alcohol consumption and uric acid level in male alcoholism. Key word : Uric acid, Alcohol consumption.
