Abstract

This research aimed to find out the relationship between the Meaning of Life and the Psychological Well-being in Abdi Dalems (servants) of Palace. The Hypothesis proposed was “there is a positive relationship between the meaning of life and the psychological well-being in abdi dalem of Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat palace. The subject of research was abdi dalem garap of Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat aged less than 60 years, with minimum education level of Junior High School and minimum tenure of 3 years. The subject of research consisted of 54 abdi dalem garap of palace taken using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were psychological well-being scale with 48 items and the meaning of life scale adapted from The Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) from Steger et al (2006) with 10 items. The data analysis used for hypothesis testing was Pearson’s Product Moment correlational technique with SPSS 17.0 for Windows Release help. The result of analysis showed that the coefficient of correlation (rxy) was 0,296 with p = 0.037 (p < 0.05), meaning that there was a positive significant relationship between the meaning of life and the psychological well-being among abdi dalems of Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat palace; for that reason, the hypothesis the author proposed was supported.
