Abstract

Cucurbita moschata Durchseeds according to the experience in the community can be used as an anthelmintic. The purpose of this study is to prove the in vivo anthelmintic activity of ethanol extract of Cucurbita moschata Durchseeds against Ascaris lumbricoides in mice. Test animals were 5-6 weeks old mice weighing 18-30 grams quantity 25 mice in divided by 5 treatment groups. Group I as control ( + ), group II as a control ( - ) , group III Cucurbita moschata Durch seed extract 2,439 mg/20 g BB, group IV Cucurbita moschata Durch seed extract and 4.878 mg/20 g BB and group VCucurbita moschata Durch seed extract 9.756 mg/20 g BB. Before the test dosage administered, mice were first infected with Ascaris lumbricoides eggs. The preparation of test administered after reaching prepatent period ( 3-4 weeks )done orally. Calculation of the number of worms done 10 days after administration of the test preparation by means of mice were killed and necroption to take the worms in the intestine of mice. The results showed that the extract of Cucurbita moschata Durch seeds for 3 consecutive days after the prepatent period or on day 31, the study showed anthelmintic activity of extract Cucurbita moschata Durch seeds against Ascaris lumbricoides. Cucurbita moschata Durch seed extract can reduce the number of Ascaris lumbricoides in intestine of mice. The most effective dose to decrease the number of bowel inAscaris lumbricoidesextract dose mice were III 9.756 mg/20 g BB.
