Abstract
Green tea (Camellia sinensis) leaf serves as antioxidant, to improve urine release, prevent cancer, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and to maintain ideal body weight. The extract of green tea leaf is assumed to be able to be made chewy tablet. The extract of green tea leaf was prepared in a variety of gelatin binder concentrations so that a high-quality chewy tablet was produced. The preparation of green tea leaf extract-chewy tablet was conducted using wet granulation method. The extract of green tea leaf was added with manitol and stirred homogenously, aspartam and lactose were added and stirred homogenously, then gelatin solution was added gradually into the mix so that a mass was formed that could be lumped and was ready to be granulated. The granule mass was sieved with number 16 sieve, and then dried in the oven at 40oC; thereafter it was sieved again with number 18 sieve, and then stearic magnesium was added and casted into tablets. The obtained tablet were tested for its weight uniformity, friability, harsdness, and taste perception test. The data was analyzed statistically using a one-way Anova with SNK test at of 95% confidence. The result of the study showed that green tea leaves could be made chewy tablet. The chewy tablet with 1% concentration of gelatin was the best formula because it met the conditions of physical quality test for tablet.
