Abstract

Basically behavior is observable and measurable deeds which can be detected from what is done and said. Aggressive behavior is caused by uncontrollable emotion which produces destructive, offensive and violent actions. Aggressiveness usually exists in those who have low-esteem characteristic. Aggressiveness happens as the result of self-defensiveness, egoism, discipline-avoidance, and superiority, while the aspects which cause self-esteem are significance, power, competence and virtue. The co-relation of self-esteem and aggressiveness among the youngsters can be detected in this research. The self-esteem is placed as the free variable while the aggressiveness is the hanging variable. The hypothesis of this research is that there is a negative co-relation between self-esteem and aggressiveness among the youngsters. The subjects of this research are students of SMA Negeri 1 Bayat, class XI, aged 15 to 18 years from Social and Science departments. The numbers of subjects which are measured are 60 students. The measurement for collecting data that is used is Self-Esteem Scale and Aggressive Behavior Scale. The Product Moment from Karl Pearson with SPSS 19.0 For Windows Release is used to analyze the data of this research. The results show the co-relation coefficient of -0,373 with significance of 0,003 (p<0,001). These findings reveal significant negative co-relation between SelfEsteem with Aggressiveness among the youngsters. The lower the Self-Esteem the more aggressive the youngsters will be and vice-versa. Key words: Self-Esteem, Aggressiveness among the youngsters
