Abstract

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) leaf is one of the medicinal plants that are known antikolesterol activities. In previous research proves that peanut leaves were able to decrease the total cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels can lead to atherosclerosis, which is a major cause of coronary heart disease. This research aims to know the influence and comparison of the most effective dose of combination peanut leaves and simvastatin that can decrease total cholesterol levels in male mice white blood serum. This research used a wistar male white mice. All mice made hiperkolesterol with high fat feed for 14 days. All the rats were randomly difided into 6 groups, each consists of 5 mice. First group is the negative control. Second group is the positive control (simvastatin). Third group provided a single extract 86,4 mg/kg bb. Forth, fifth, sixth group given the combination of peanut leaves ethanolic extract-simvastatin 64,8 mg/ kg bb : 0,225 mg/ kg bb (0,75:0,25); 43,2 mg/ kg bb : 0,450 mg/ kg bb (0,50:0,50); 21,6 mg/ kg bb : 0,675 mg/ kg bb (0,25:0,75). Cholesterol levels are measured on day 0, the 14th, the 28th with method CHOD-PAP. The results showed that all combination of peanut leaves ethanolic extract and simvastatin can decrease male white mice blood cholesterol levels comparable with simvastatin. Single simvastatin the most effective that can decrease total cholesterol levels in male mice white blood serum. Keywords : Peanut leaf, simvastatin, high fat feed, total cholesterol
