Abstract
Atherosclerosis is an etiology of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). LDL increase cholesterol deposition on arterial wall, leading to rising risk of heart disease. Increased LDL and decreased HDL cause preventing hyperlipidemia. Kepel leaves contain flavonoids as an antioxidant activity preventing the mechanism atherosclerosis. This study was to intended to determine the effect to leaf extract of kepel (Stelechocarpus burahol) and determine the most effective dose for reduce LDL level and increasing HDL againts white male rats fed a highfat diet. In this study, the test animals were divided to six group that consisted of five rats each white rats, the groups were normal control group I (BR II feed and distilled water), negative control group II (CMC Na), positive control group III (simvastatin dose of 10 mg/g BB), group IV (extract dose of 7,64 mg/g BB), group V (extract dose 15,28 mg/g BB), group VI (extract dose 22,92 mg/b BB). All treatment groups were given a high fat diet for 14 days except group I. The study was conducted for 28 days. Blood sampling performed on day 1, day 14, and day 28 through opthalmikus vein. The results show that the ethanolic extract dose of 7.64 mg/g BB rat, 15.28 mg/g BB rats and 22.92 mg/g BB rats can increase HDL levels and decrease in LDL cholesterol. The most effective dose to increase HDL and decrease LDL cholesterol were 22.92 mg/g BB simvastatin equivalent. The conclusion of this study ethanolic extract leaf Kepel dose 22,92 mg/g BB able to raise levels of HDL and decrease LDL serum white male wistar rats fed a high-fat diet.
