Abstract
Memory, brain, plays an important role in delivering information and thinking process. The improvement of memory should be carried out in cerebral cells developmental and growth phases. The plant very potentially improving memory, in addition to Ginko biloba is pegagan (Centella asiatica, [L.] Urban) herb. The plant selected to be combined with pegagan herb is wild ginger (Curcuma xanthorrhiza, Roxb.) potentially protects the cell from oxidative damage. It can also potentially be made instantaneous preparation ready to consume. The objectives of research were to find out whether or not the instantaneous preparation combination of pegagan herb and wild ginger rhizome extracts can improve the effect on memory and to find the most optimum doses. The step through passive avoidance method employed pretest and posttest latency time interval parameter from the length of time the mice needed to enter the dark compartment from bright compartment. The dose used was Ginko biloba extract (0.195 mg/20 mg BW) as positive control, sucrose solution as negative control, dose I: 15 g instantaneous preparation at 4.165 mg/20 g BW pegagan and 3.48 mg/20 g BW wild ginger dose, dose II: 30 g instantaneous preparation at 8.33 mg/20 g BW pegagan and 6.96 mg/20 g BW wild ginger dose, dose III: 45 g instantaneous preparation at 12.495 mg/20 g BW pegagan and 10.44 mg/20 g BW wild ginger dose. The result of statistic test showed the significant difference of each test group. In dose II, 30 g instantaneous preparation at 8.33 mg/20 g BW pegagan and 6.96 mg/20 g BW wild ginger dose had highest mean latency time during the research: 38.21 s on the day-9, 105.06 s on the day-10, and 240.01 s on the day11. The combination of pegagan herb and wild ginger with dose II at 8.33 mg/20 g BW pegagan and 6.96 mg/20 g BW wild ginger dose provided the most optimum memory to mice. Keywords: Memory, pegagan herb, wild ginger rhizome, instantaneous preparation, latency time.
