Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a disease caused by insulin deficiency with the result that glucose can not be processed by the body, so that blood sugar level increasing in a long time and released by urine. Patients with diabetes mellitus have 20 times greater risk of suffering from renal damage compared with no diabetes mellitus. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, an estimated 10-20% will progress to chronic renal failure. Renal failure is characterized by reduced kidney function, causing an increase in urea and creatinine metabolite results. Examination of urea and creatinine levels of patients with diabetes mellitus was to determine abnormalities in the kidneys, which is a complication of diabetes mellitus. This study was aimed to know the levels of urea and creatinine in patients with diabetes mellitus with complication of chronic renal failure. This is a descriptive study. The study was done in RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta, while the examination was carried out in the laboratory of Regional Mental Hospital Surakarta. The study began on December 21, 2012 until January 15, 2013. The sample was taken from 20 patient's blood serum of RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta. The method used for the examination of urea was enzymatic UV test, while for creatinine was kinetic test. According to the percentage result of urea and creatinine level examination of 20 patients with diabetes mellitus with chronic renal failure treated in RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta, of 20 samples found 1 sample (5%) with increased urea level, 3 samples (15%) with increased creatinine level, 11 samples (55%) with increased urea and creatinine levels, while 5 samples (25%) with normal urea and creatinine levels.
