Abstract

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanni Nees ex Bl.) is a herbal medicine well known in Indonesian. Cinnamaldehyde, safrol, eugenol are chemical substance of cinnamon that has therapeutical effect. But no test for safely about cinnamon oil. The goal of this study is to find out subchronic toxicity effect of cinnamon oil on the hematological parameters (red blood cells, white bood cells, trombosit, and hematocrit) on Wistar rats and determine whether the greater dose, the greater subchronic toxicity effect. This research used 20 rats and divided into 4 groups. Each group was given 0,01 ml, 0,02 ml, 0,04 ml cinnamon oil and the last group was given aquadest. Data have been obtained from counting the number of blood cells before treatment and first week, second week, third week, and fourth week. The result of calculation were analyzed using paired sample t-test for compared before and after treatment and Anava for compared treatment every dose. This experimental result that there was no subchronic toxicity effect of cinnamon oil (Cinnamomum burmanni Nees ex Bl.) for hematological and the great dose no greater subchronic toxicity effect in rats. The administering of cinnamon oil, in this research, had no subchronic toxicity to rat. Key words: toxicity, cinnamon oil, hematological.
