Abstract

Extract ethanol of Bandotan leaves ( Ageratum conyzoides L) having an antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus. Emulgel is a topical preparation that will improve the efficacy of treatment and convenience. Physical properties and effective treatment in emulgel affected by several factors one of them is a gelling agent. Na-CMC is one type of gelling agent. The purpose of this research is to find the influence variation concentration Na-CMC against the character of physical and healing infections of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Emulgel formulated into three formula that is Na-CMC 2 %, 3 %, and 4 % use ethanol extract of Bandotan leaves with concentration 20 % every formula. The physical properties include the organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, attaching, spreadability and stability. The healing infection test uses 5 rabbits who infected by the suspension of the Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 on 5 locations in the rabbits’ back. In 5 locations smeared with ethanol extract of Bandotan leaves and emulgel with Na-CMC 2%, 3%, 4%, in positive and negative controls, then the healing time was observed. Physical properties test analyzed by two-way ANOVA and healing time with one way ANOVA. The results showed that the variation of Na-CMC concentrations affected the physical properties and healing of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 infections. The emulgel formula of Bandotan leaves ethanol extract with 3% Na-CMC showed good physical properties and the fastest healing effect compared to 2% and 4% Na-CMC formula, with 9-11 days of healing time.
