Abstract

Burns are injuries that require the best care to achieve a cure, pegagan leaves (Centella asiatica Urb) can be used as an alternative in the wound healing process because the content of asiatikosida, madekasosida, asiatic acid power that stimulates the formation of collagen type I, which plays a role in wound healing, extracts made in ointment dosage forms, the focus of use on the outside of the body. This study aims to determine the leaf extract of pegagan (Centella asiatica Urb) can be formulated in ointment and pegagan leaves proving activity and determine the effectiveness of the preparation as an anti-burns. The ethanol extract of pegagan leaf made by maceration method, followed by re-maceration. Preparation of ethanol extract ointment was divided into 3 concentration ointment base formula I vaseline album: liquid paraffin (50:50), formula II vaseline album: liquid paraffin (70:30) and formula III vaseline album: liquid paraffin (90:10). Testing the activity of healing of burns performed on the back of New Zealand rabbits and testing physical quality: organoleptic, dispersions, adhesion, viscosity, pH, and homogeneity. Results of statistical analysis the percentage of healing. The results of this research is ethanol extract of pegagan leaf can be formulated in an ointment as well as physical quality is good, any concentration of activity as an anti-burns and formula I have activity healing of burns effectively.
