Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil is an oil made from fresh coconut meat which is processed in low temperatures or without heating. The small structure of fatty acid molecules in VCO makes it easier for the skin and hair to absorb so that the VCO is good for softening rough and wrinkled skin. This study aims to find out that VCO can be made with moisturizing lotion preparations with a combination of emulsifying agent polysorbate 80 and cetyl alcohol and knowing the effect of a combination of emulsifying polysorbate 80 agent and cetyl alcohol agents in the manufacture of VCO moisturizing lotion on physical quality and stability and knowing the concentration of polysorbate 80 and cetyl alcohol which is obtained as an emulsifying agent with good physical quality and stability. Moisturizing lotion is made in 4 formulas where Formula 1, 2, 3, and 4 each contain 27.6% pure coconut oil. Moisturizing lotion is made with different concentrations of polysorbate 80 and cetyl alcohol. Formula 1 (4%: 2%), formula 2 (8%: 2%), formula 3 (2%: 4%), and formula 4 (2%: 8 %). Then physical quality was tested including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersion, adhesion, lotion type test and stability test by centrifugation method. Data is processed statistically with SPSS 21 using one way ANOVA with a degree of 95% confidence. The results showed that VCO can be made with moisturizing lotion preparations and a combination of polysorbate emulsifying agent 80 and cetyl alcohol affect the physical quality and stability of the lotion. In this study, it is known that polysorbate 80 is predicted to be dominant in determining dispersion and a shift in viscosity of moisturizing lotions of VCO and cetyl alcohol predominantly in determining the viscosity of the lotion. In this study found the composition of the optimum emulsifying agent polysorbate 80 and cetyl alcohol in a moisturizing lotion VCO those who meet the physical quality and stability test criteria are in formula 1 with a concentration of polysorbate 80 of 4% and cetyl alcohol of 2 %.
