Abstract

Sunscreen is a cosmetic preparation that acts to protect the skin from the dangers of sun radiation exposure. Sun protecting factor (SPF) is the ability of the skin to survive under the sun without experiencing sunbrun. Strawberry plants are one of the plants that have been shown to have sunscreen activities because they contain flavonoids and polyphenols. This study aims to determine that strawberry leaf extract can be made into cream preparations that have good physical quality, knowing that strawberry leaf extract cream (Fragaria x ananassa var duchesne) can counteract UV B radiation and find out the SPF value of strawberry leaf extract cream preparations. Extraction was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol. The extract is made of cream with a series concentration of 0.125%; 0.250% and 0.500%. Tests carried out include physical quality, stability, and sunscreen activity both in vivo and in vitro. In vitro activity test using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. In vivo activity tests were performed using new zealand white rabbits irradiated using exotera lamps for 24 hours and 48 hours to see the erythema produced. The results showed that strawberry leaf extract can be made into a cream that has good physical quality and can counteract UV B radiation. The results of the SPF value of a number of creams with series concentrations of 0.125%; 0.250% and 0.500%, namely 21.32 ± 0.30; 36.06 ± 0.02 and 41.20 ± 0.072.
