Abstract

Beluntas leaf (Pluchea indica (L) Less) contained many compounds, one of them was essential oil. The essential oil of beluntas leaves is thought to be used as an antibacterial against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptpcoccus mutans. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of essential oils of beluntas leaves in inhibiting activity againts Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptpcoccus mutans and to find out thin layer chromatography and chromatography profiles of GC-MS beluntas leaves essential oil. Isolation of essential oils of beluntas leaves using a steam distillation method. Essential oils were analyzed using Thin Layer Chromatography and GC-MS. Essential oils were made in concentrations of 12.5%, 25% and 50%, then tested for antibacterial activity using the disc diffusion method. Observation of antibacterial activity was carried out by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone that occurred around the disc. The results showed that the essential oil of beluntas leaves had an antibacterial activity with an effective concentration of 50% as an antibacterial against Streptococcus mutans. The result of the KLT test of essential oil of beluntas leaves do not ontain eugenol because the resulting Rf is different from the comparison, but essential oil of belunta leaves contains another phenol compound because after being spray Anisaldehide-Asam Sulfat produce purple. Components of compounds found in essential oils of beluntas leaves by GC-MS analysis are TETRACYCLO [6.3.2.0E2,5.0E1,8] TRIDECAN-9-OL, 4,4-DIMETHYL (16,84%); NEOALLOOCIMENE (15.17%); and Trans-Caryophyllene (14.24%).
