Abstract

Insomnia is the most discovered sleep disorder that is usually overcoming chemical drugs that have side effect of dependence. One of them is ubi kates leaves (Ipomoea cairica), which is usually used as a traditional medicine. Alkaloids are compounds that thought to have the efficacy of having sedative activity because they can increase the neurotransmitter GABA A. This study to determine the sedative activity of ubi kates leaves. The extraction method used in this study is soxhletation. This study used 30 rats divided into 6 groups, consisting of negative control, chemical positive control, herbal positive control, and 100 mg /kgBB, 200 mg /kgBB, dan 400 mg /kgBB dosage of the ubi kates leaves extract by narkose potential methods, head dip test, dan y-maze test. The results showed that the ethanol extract of ubi kates leaves can provide sedative activity in Wistar strain white rats with effective dose of ethanol extract of ubi kates leaves is 200 mg /kgBB.
