Abstract
Essential oil is volatile oil and has a distinctive odor from its original plant, besides as an essential ingredient of essential oils, it can be used as fixative material. Essential oils that can be used as fixative materials, one of which is vetiver oil, because of its low volatility. A lot of air freshener gel in the market comes from synthetic ingredients that have an adverse effect on health, so natural ingredients can be used to make natural air freshener gels that are not harmful to health. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of base fragrance gel variations used on the physical properties and stability of gel base, to determine the effect of variations in vetiver oil concentration on the value of lime oil aroma preference, and to determine the effect of variations in vetiver oil concentration on fragrance resistance air freshener gel for one month of storage. This research was conducted in two stages, the first stage of making essential oils and the second stage was making air freshener gel. Making vetiver oil and lime oil was carried out by steam-water distillation method, then organoleptic testing, identification of essential oils, identification of solubility in ethanol, refractive index determination, and GC-MS analysis. The second stage of the research was the manufacture of air freshener gel, in this stage several testing parameters were carried out including organoleptic testing and gel base stability, test of air freshener gel preference, liquid evaporation test, and fragrance gel fragrance resistance test. The results showed that the best gel base was formula 2 with a carragenan ratio: 50: 50 glucomannan, because it had gel properties that were elastic and not easily brittle and the sinerensis value was 1.0%. The preference test results show that formula 2 has the highest favorite value of 80%. The liquid evaporation test results showed that formula 4 had the lowest total evaporation in the ordinary room, which was 17.65%. The results of the fragrance resistance test of vetiver oil with a concentration of 1% can hold fragrance for 1 month of storage. Keywords: air freshening gel, carrageenan, glucomannan, and vetiver oil.
