Abstract
Second degree burns are damage that occurs in the epidermis and part of the dermis. Betle leaf (Piper betle L.) can be used as an alternative burner because it contains compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. Emulgel is a preparation intended for topical use. This research is purpose to determine the extract etanol of betle leaf can be formulated into a good emulgel, and to know the effective concentration of emulgel preparations of extract ethanol betle leaf as a healer of second degree burns. The test used 5 rabbits as test animals and made 5 locations of wounds on the rabbit's back. Making wounds using heated metal plates. At 5 wound sites smeared with betel leaf ethanol extract emulsions with a concentration of 15%, 30%, 45%, negative control, and positive control for 14 days. Emulgel physical properties were tested by organoleptic, pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, and freeze and thaw test. The results of measurements of wound diameters were statistically analyzed using one way ANOVA. The results showed that all concentrations of the betel leaf ethanol extract emulgel formula had an effect as a burn wound healer. The 15% emulgel concentration formula showed the best effect in healing burns with an average percentage of healing burns which was almost equivalent to a positive control of 97.50%.
