Abstract

Avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) can be used as an alternative treatment for burns because its contain flavonoids, saponins and tannins. The purpose of this study was to find out whether the ethanol extract of avocado leaves can be made as a burn healing ointment to meet good criteria. To determine whether there is an effect of the burn healing on the avocado leaf ethanol extract ointment formulation. To find out the avocado leaf ethanol extract formulation which has the most effective effect of burn healing. The ethanol extract of avocado leaves was made by maceration method and 50% extract concentration was obtained. The ointment was made in three variations of the base concentration between white vaseline and liquid paraffin, that is 50%: 50%, 70%: 30%, and 90%: 10%. The physical properties of ointment were tested organoleptically, homogeneity, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, and pH test. Tests for burns healing were tested in New Zealand white rabbits. The results of measurements of burns healing were analyzed statistically using SPSS. This study shows that the avocado ethanol extract of burns ointment can be made according to good physical quality requirements. The avocado ethanol extract ointment has an effect as a burn healing. The most effective formulation of the ethanol extract of avocado leaves as a burn healing is formula II. Key word : ethanol extract, avocado leaves, ointment, burn
