Abstract

Breast milk is a natural food that contains many nutrients for baby's growth. Breastmilk production can be increased by consuming drugs that have the potential to be lactagogum. Adas Stems and leaves have the potential to be laktagogum by increasing the diameter and number of mammae gland alveoli. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of adas leaves and stem ethanol extract and the effective dose in increasing the diameter and number of alveoli. The study used 24 breastfeeding rats divided into 6 groups, consisting of normal control, negative control (CMC Na 0.5%), positive control (Asifit 67.86 mg / Kg BB), and ethanol extract of fennel stems and leaves with variations dose 315, 630, 945 mg / Kg BB. The mice were treated for 25 days and then dissected for mammae glands and histological preparations were made with HE staining (Hematoxylin-eosin). The data obtained were then tested using One Way Anova and continued with the Tukey Post Hoc Test. The results showed that ethanol extract of stems and leaves of Adas can increase the diameter and number of mammae gland alveoli in breastfeeding rats. The dose of 630 mg / Kg BB is the most effective extract dose in increasing milk production because it is comparable with positive control (Asifit dose 67.86 mg / Kg BB).
