Abstract
Excessive triglyceride levels in the body can cause hyperlipidemia and even cardiovascular disease. The leaves of purple sweet potato ( Ipomea batatas L.) have benefits to overcome the condition of hyperlipidemia. This research is aimed to know the activity of extract and fraction and to knowing the content of chemical compounds from purple sweet potato leaves as antihypertriglyceridemia in the most active fractions. Extract and fraction of purple sweet potato leaves obtained by extraction and fractionation methods . Mice used were 30 individuals were divided into 6 groups namely control hypertriglyceridemia group, gemfibrozil control, purple sweet potato leaves extract group with doses of 300 mg/Kg BW, n -heksan fraction, ethyl acetate and water fractions. Propylthiouracil induced mice 12,5 mg/day and were fed high fat diet for 21 days, after which the rats were given the test preparation for 14 days. The parameters observed were triglyceride levels by spectrophotometric methods. Data from the research were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey HSD test. The results of this study indicate that extract and fraction of purple sweet potato leaves has antihipertrigliseridemic activity. Ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoids, tannins and saponins that it has antihypertriglyceridemia activity which are not significantly different from gemfibrozil. Key words: triglyceride, purple sweet potatos leaves (Ipomea batatas L.), extracts, fractions
