Abstract
Depression is a mental illness characterized interfere with feelings of sadness and anxiety. Depression is currently in fourth place in the world of disease and predicted 2020 will be the second. Depression can be used with the scent of essential oils. Ginger rhizome (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb) is one of the traditional essential oil producing plants. This study aims to determinethe antidepressant effect of essential oil of ginger rhizome with variations in concentration of 0.5; 1; and 2% and concentration of the most effective of these concentration variations. This study used 25 white male mice were divided into 5 groups and induced by ultrasonic sound frequency of 26 KHz. The aroma of essential oils given by inhalation by means of essential oil molecules released. After being given an ultrasonic induction was observed on motor activity (time of motor activity and the amount of reaction) and the power coordination (latency time). The aroma of essential oils of ginger rhizome as seen antidepressant aroma of motor activity and concentration power. Variations in the concentration of 0.5; 1; and 2%, the effective concentration that is 1% is obtained based on the result of increasing concentrations of the motor and the power of concentration.
