Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a condition where an increase in lipid level in the blood plasma includes and increase in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol and decrease in HDL levels. Herbs that are believed to be able to reduce cholesterol levels include Kaempferia galanga L., Curcumae xanthorrizae Roxb., Curcumae aeruginosae Roxb., Amomum compactum Soland., Piper retrofractum Vahl. This research aims to determine the activity of herbal infusion ingredients from Kaempferia galanga L., Curcumae xanthorrizae Roxb., Curcumae aeruginosae Roxb., Amomum compactum Soland and Piper retrofractum Vahl. in reducing total cholesterol and LDL levels and can increase HDL levels in wistar male rats induced by a high diet of fat. This study used a sample of 35 male white rats devided into 7 groups, normal group, negative group, positive group (simvastatin 0,9 mg/kg BW), infusion group 1 (Kaempferia galanga L, Curcumae xanthorrizae Roxb, Curcumae aeruginosae Roxb, Amomum compactum Soland, and Piper retrofractum Vahl), infusion group 2 (Kaempferia galanga L and Curcumae xanthorrizae Roxb), infusion group 3 (Kaempferia galanga L, Curcumae aeruginosae Roxb, Amomum compactum Soland, and Piper retrofractum Vahl), infusion group 4 (Curcumae xanthorrizae Roxb, Curcumae aeruginosae Roxb, Amomum compactum Soland, and Piper retrofractum Vahl). Total cholesterol, LDL and HDL levels was measured by CHOD-PAP method on day 0, day 14th, and day 28th. The obtained results were analyzed statistically with the Shapiro�Wilk, Levene, One Way Anova, and Post Hoc Turkey. The results showed that infusion group 1 (Kaempferia galanga L, Curcumae xanthorrizae Roxb, Curcumae aeruginosae Roxb, Amomum compactum Soland, and Piper retrofractum Vahl) has activity to decrease the total cholesterol levels and LDL levels and increasing HDL levels in white rats blood and has the equal effect compared to simvastatin in decreasing total cholesterol levels and LDL levels and increasing HDL levels.
