Abstract
Skin infection is a type of infection that often be found in developing countries, which caused by the lack of hygiene and bacteria. Ashitaba plants (Angelica keiskei) are known as multifunctional plants because of its flavonoid compounds which can be useful as antibacterial. The use of extract directly is less effective and uncomfortable so it is made into facial wash preparations. This research aims to find out the physical quality of ashitaba leaf ethanol extract facial wash. This research involves ashitaba leaves extraction by using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The study of antibacterial activity was conducted by literature review to determine the antibacterial activity and the inhibitory activity of topical preparations from the Apiaceae family extract towards various bacterial cells. Antibacterial activity and inhibition were measured by using several methods such as the Kirby-Bauer method, disc diffusion, disk diffusion, wells and macrodilution. The results of the formulation of Ashitaba leaf ethanol extract facial wash can be made of good physical quality at carbopol concentrations of 940 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%. The results of the antibacterial study activity showed that the Ashitaba leaf extract (Angelica keiskei) and Apiaceae family plants had antibacterial activity and inhibitory power in various bacterial cells namely Streptococcus mutans with KBM value of 0.500 mg / mL, Staphylococcus aureus with inhibitory zone diameters of 10.62 ± 1, 55 mm, Pseudomonas aeruginosa with inhibition diameter of 6.08-18.78 mm, Mycobacterium tuberculosis with MIC of 6-8%, Escherichia Coli with inhibitory power at a concentration of 5-15% by 8-17 mm and Propionibacterium acnes with inhibitory power 9.61-12.45 mm. Keyword: Angelica keiskei, Apiaceae, Antibacterial, Bacterial cell, Facial wash.
