Abstract
Water pumpkin fruit (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl.) has many benefits. One of its properties is as healing burns that come from the content of flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, and phenolic compounds. This study aims to determine the test results of the ethanol extract cream of water pumpkin fruit and to determine the activity of pumpkin fruit as a healing for second degree burns with an effective concentration of ethanol extract cream for water gourd as a healing for second degree burns on rabbit back skin. The water pumpkin fruit extract is made into a cream preparation. The physical properties of the cream were tested for organoleptic, pH, viscosity, adhesion, spreadability, and stability test at room temperature. The burn healing activity test of pumpkin water extract used 5 rabbits as test animals. Each rabbit was made 5 wound sites on its back using a heated metal plate. At the 5 wound sites, the cream of pumpkin extract was smeared with a concentration of 7, 12 and 17%, negative control and positive control twice for 14 days. The results of measurement of the diameter and days of burn healing were statistically analyzed using two way ANOVA. The results showed that the ethanol extract cream of pumpkin fruit had good physical properties, the cream with a concentration of 7, 12 and 17%, could heal second degree burns and the most effective concentration was cream with 17% water pumpkin fruit ethanol extract.
