Abstract

Antioxidants are substances that the body needs to neutralize free radicals. Moringa leaves contain flavanoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins as antioxidants due to their ability to catch free radicals. Decreased memory is influenced by the contribution of oxidative stress. This study aims to find out the effect of moringa leaf extract on increased squeak memory and find out what is an effective dosage for increased memory. This research uses the Radial Arm Maze method. 25 white mice divided into 5 groups consisting of positive control groups (Gingko biloba 9.75 mg/kg BB mencit), negative control (CMC 0.5%), groups 3.4 and 5 were given moringa leaf ethanol extract at consecutive doses of 105, 210 and 420 mg/kg BB mencit. Mice are induced with lead (II) acetate 104 mg /kg BB mice and then treated for 21 days. Latency time data is statistically analyzed using a one-way ANOVA (p<0.05) followed by tukey test. The results showed that the administration of moringa leaf ethanol extract can improve memory where latency time decreases and percent of type B errors are smaller in lead-induced male white mice (II) acetate. An effective dose of moringa leaf extract that can improve memory is a dose of 420 mg/kg of BB mice. Keywords: Memory, Moringa Leaves, Radial Arm Maze, Antioxidants
