Abstract
Papaya seeds have carry on as an antibaterial against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Papaya seeds are known to contain active compounds that have antibacterial activity, namely flavonoids, carpain alkaloids and triterpenoids. The purpose of this study is to formulate a prepared gel hand sanitizer of papaya seed extract that have both physical and stability qualities and an effective antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Papaya seeds were extracted using maceration method using ethanol 96% as solvent. Papaya seed extract is formulated into 3 formulas with an extract concentration of 10% and variations of Carbopol 940 0.5 g, 0.75 g, and 1 g. according to the gel hand sanitizer, physical quality and stability tests continue to test antibacterial activity against bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The test data obtained via analysis using SPSS statistical program with Shapiro-wilk test followed by One Way Anova test (p<0.05). The results of this study have been found that due to test of physical quality and stability and a availability of antibacterial activity indicate that gel hand sanitizer of papaya seed extract with variations of Carbopol 940 0.5 g, 0.75g and 1 g have good physical quality and stability as well as good activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
