Abstract

Cuts are caused by sharp objects, such as swords, axes, and others. Normal wound healing can be assisted with both chemical and natural treatment. Sunflower seed oil (Helianthus annuus L.) is known to have a wound healing effect, and cream is one of the suitable topical preparations for cuts. This study aims to evaluate the physical quality of sunflower seed oil cream preparations and determine the effective concentration of sunflower seed oil that can heal cuts in New Zealand rabbits. Sunflower seed oil is made into cream in 3 concentrations, namely 5; 10; and 15%. Cream preparations were tested for physical quality and stability. Test activity of cream preparations as wound healing was done by applying cream to the back of a rabbit that had been injured. The data of physical quality test and activity test of sunflower seed oil cream were analyzed by one way anova to determine the difference between formulas, then continued with the paired t test. The results of the physical quality test stated that all the formulas met the requirements well, and the cream activity test stated that all of the formulas had activity to heal cuts. Cream with 5% sunflower seed oil concentration showed the most effective wound healing effect on par with positive control. Keywords: cream, cut, sunflower seed oil.
