Abstract
Cervical cancer is a cancer that can cause death caused by infection with the HPV virus with chemotherapy as a commonly used treatment. However, chemotherapy causes adverse side effects, so this study was conducted to examine the cytotoxic activity of the extract and fraction of kenikir leaf on HeLa cells and to determine which fraction had the most potent cytotoxic activity against HeLa cells. This study is an in vitro experimental study with the extraction of 250 grams of kenikir leaves using the maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent, then fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. Cytotoxic test method of extracts and fractions with a series concentration of 1,875 μg/ mL; 3,75 μg/ mL; 7,81 μg/ mL; 15,75 μg/ mL; 31,25 μg/ mL; 62,5 μg/ mL; 125 μg/ mL; and 250 μg/ mL using MTT Assay with HeLa cell culture and IC50 for parameter. Cytotoxicity test results from ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction from kenikir leaves have moderate cytotoxic properties with IC50 values of 147 μg/ml, 81 μg/ml, 58 μg/ml, and 118 μg/ml. respectively. The ethyl acetate fraction is the most potent fraction because it has the smallest IC50 value among several samples. Key words: (Cosmos caudatus Kunth), HeLa Cells, Cytotoxic, extract, fraction
