Abstract

Deodorant is a cosmetic preparation used to help cover or reduce body odor caused by excessive sweat production and the growth of bacteria that cause body odor. Antiseptic content in deodorants can inhibit or suppress the growth of bacteria that trigger body odor. This study aims to determine the physical quality and the best antibacterial activity of roll-on deodorant preparations of white sweet potato leaf etanol extract. In this study, the extraction of white sweet potato leaves used the maceration method and 3 formulas with different concentrations, namely 4%; 6%; 8%. Roll on deodorant preparations for each formula were tested for organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, dispersibillity, adhesion, irritation, stability, and antibacterial activity using the well diffusion method. The data from the physical quality test and antibacterial activity of each formula were statistically analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. The results of the research from various concentrations showed that the roll-on deodorant preparation of white sweet potato leaf ethanol extract had good physical quality, stability and had antibacterial activity. The results of the antibacterial activity test of the roll on deodorant preparation of white sweet potato leaf ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 showed that the preparation with an extract concentration of 4% had the effective activity as an antibacterial with an inhibitory zone diameter of 16,66 mm.
