Abstract

Acne is an inflammatory condition on the skin that is blocked causing redness of the skin. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is a pathogenic bacterium that causes acne. Secondary metabolite compounds in pineapples have antibacterial activity against S. aureus bacteria. The study aimed to formulate pineapple skin ethanol extracts into serum preparations and test antibacterial activity. Pineapple skin extract is done by maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. Pineapple skin extract is formulated into serum preparations with various variations of pineapple skin extract 5%, 10%, and 15%. Testing of antibacterial activity is carried out by well diffusion method and analyzed using the SPSS Shapiro-wills program. The results of the serum preparations of pineapple skin extract with concentration variations of 5%, 10%, and 15% had antibacterial activity of 13.91 mm ± 0.87, 16.25 mm ± 0.25, and 18.5 mm ± 0.25. Pineapple skin extract serum has good physical quality and stability including organoleptic testing, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and scattering power. Serum preparations of pineapple skin extract at a concentration of 15% have the best antibacterial activity of S. aureus ATCC 25923 of 18.5 mm ± 0.25.
