Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a disease with chronic metabolic disorders in the body that cause high blood glucose levels. Moringa plants are known to have high antioxidant content with several active compounds such as alkaloids, steroids/terpenoids, flavonoids, and tannins. The purpose of this literature review is to determine the presence of anti-diabetic activity in Moringa plants. This author uses a literature review study method by collecting international journals, both research journals and articles through search engines on database Google scholar, Sinta, science Direct, Scorpus, NCBI and searching for journals published between 2012-2021 with the number of articles used by 18 journals. Data analysis in this study used qualitative analysis consisting of four stages, namely data collection, data selection, data presentation and conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the literature on related journals are that the Moringa plant has chemical groups of flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, and polyphenols. The effective doses of Moringa plants that reduce blood glucose levels are 0.1 ml/10 g, 0.2 ml/10 g, 0.3 ml/10 g, 20 mg/200 g, 100 mg/kgBW, 150 mg/kgBW, 200 mg/kgBW, 250 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, 450 mg/kgBW, 500 mg/kgBW, 600 mg/kgBW, 1200 mg/kgBW. The mechanism of the Moringa plant as an antidiabetic is by stimulating the cells of the pancreas to secrete inulin and increase insulin release. Keywords: Moringa oleifera, diabetes mellitus, blood sugar levels, hyperglycemia, antidiabetic activity
