Abstract
Acne is a skin problem in which the skin pores are clogged, causing inflamed pus pockets. One of the causes of acne is the bacterium staphylococcus epidermidis. Bandotan plant (Ageratum conyzoides, L.) has been studied and used as an antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of HPMC and PVA on the physical quality and stability of the peel off mask dosage form and to determine its antibacterial activity. Bandotan leaf powder (Ageratum conyzoides, L.) was macerated with 96% ethanol as a solvent. Bandotan leaf extract was formulated in the form of a peel off mask with various combinations of HPMC and PVA with a ratio of 10.5:1.5 (formula 1), 10.25:1.75 (formula II), 10:2 (formula III), 9.5:2.5 (formula IV), and 9:3 (formula V). Evaluation of the physical quality of the preparation included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, adhesion, dispersibility, pH, viscosity, drying time, and stability tests. Antibacterial activity test using well diffusion method. Data analysis used SPSS 26 software with one way ANOVA test method to determine the difference values of the five formulations. The results showed that the peel off mask preparation of bandotan leaf extract (Ageratum conyzoides, L.) with various concentrations of PVA and HPMC which had good physical quality and stability was formula III with 10% PVA concentration and 2% HPMC. The five formulations of peel off mask preparations of bandotan leaf extract have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 with statistical results showing no significant difference. Keywords: peel off mask , HPMC, PVA, Staphylococcus epidermidis.
