Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to defects in insulin secretion. The active compounds of flavonoids that are suspected to be antidiabetic agents are in the skin of avocado fruits, namely anthocyanins. This study aims to determine the activity of extracts and fractions of avocado peels (Persea americana Mill. ) against a decrease in blood glucose levels of male white mice induced alloxane. The extraction method is maceration with 70% ethanol then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. The method of measuring blood glucose levels with a glucometer and Easy touch strip is followed by histopathological examination of the pancreas of the test animal. The test animals were in the form of mice as many as 6 treatment groups, namely negatif kontrol of CMC 0.5%, positif Glibenclamide 0,65 mg /KgBB mencit, ethanol extract of avocado peel at a dose of 420 mg/KgBB, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Data analysis using One Way ANOVA statistical analysis. The results showed that avocado peel extract dose 420 mg/KgBB mice, n-hexane fraction dose 126 mg /KgBB mice, ethyl acetate fraction dose 16,8 mg /KgBB mice, and water fraction dose 218 mg/KgBB mice had antihyperglycemia activity characterized by the presence of significant differences with negatif Na-CMC kontrol of 0.5%. The ethyl acetate fraction is known to have the most powerful antihyperglycemia effect that can lower the blood sugar level of mice and is able to repair damage to the pancreatic organs. The ethyl acetate fraction is effective in lowering blood sugar levels, namely a dose of 16,8 mg / KgBB mice. Keywords : DM, histopathology, blood sugar, avocado rind (Persea americana Mill.)
