Abstract
Depression is a mental disorder of a person, the inner and psychological atmosphere is disturbed for a long time which will have a bad impact on the patient. For antidepressants itself is a compound that can improve the state of depression in patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the effective dose and to prove the activity of the ethanolic extract of fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius R.) to reduce the level of immobility and locomotor activity in test animals. This study used the ethanolic extract of fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius R.) at a dose of 4 mg, 8 mg, and 16 mg/kg BB of mice to be compared with a positive control 3,5 mg/kg BB. Previously, mice would be adapted for 1 week and then divided into 5 treatment groups, and then given stress. The preparation within 10 days and then tested for antidepressant activity using the tail suspension test and open field test methods. The results showed that the ethanol extract of fragrant pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius R.) dose of 16 mg/kg reduced the duration of immobility and increased the locomotor activity of mice, the duration of which was evidenced by an increase in the duration of the central square and a decrease in the duration of grooming with p <0.05 in the paired t test analysis. The percentage increase in locomotor activity and decrease in immobility in the 16 mg/kg dose group showed a difference with the negative control group and showed no difference with the positive control group p>0.05 using the LSD analysis method.
